Carbapenem-resistant pathogens such as Enterobacterales, Acinetobacter baumannii and Pseudomonas aeruginosa cause severe, even deadly infections and have been recognized as presenting a significant threat to the global community. Optimal selection of antimicrobials to treat these infections is hugely challenging, especially in the face of worldwide antimicrobial resistance where stewardship is pivotal to use. This symposium aims to reinforce the importance of Antimicrobial Stewardship in the 21st century and reflect on lessons learned from the use of antibiotics in patients infected with SARS-CoV-2. The faculty will discuss rapid diagnostics and their role in ensuring that the right antibiotic is used at the right time, particularly for the critically ill patient. Speakers will discuss how latest treatments for MDRGNIs are being used and their role in enabling new treatment pathways. Could new antibiotics lead to a more tailored treatment approach and therefore better patient outcomes?
