Biofilms contribute to the re-occurrence and tolerance of more than 80% of chronic infections and their treatment represents a major healthcare challenge. The unique phenotype of biofilms thwarts standard infectious disease practices, but also provides an opportunity to clinicians to treat these chronic infections in novel ways. This symposium will highlight new approaches in treatment and prevention of chronic, biofilm-associated infections.
