9a. Microbial pathogenesis & virulence 2173 2:15 PM > 3:15 PM Causal association between infection and neurodegenerative disorders? 9. Basic microbiology 9a. Microbial pathogenesis & virulence

Recent research developments have provided evidence that supports the hypothesis that oral bacteria can cause dementia and possibly Alzheimer’s disease. Speakers in this session will discuss the potential pathogenic mechanisms involved and whether we can halt or reverse the progression of infectious dementia with antimicrobial strategies.

2:15 PM 2173-1 The immunopathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease is related to the composition of gut microbiota > F. Friedrich LEBLHUBER (Linz) 2:35 PM 2173-2 A causal role for the gut microbiome in Parkinson’s disease > P. Paul WILMES (Esch-Sur-Alzette) 2:55 PM 2173-3 Q&A/Discussion
