The role of patients in infectious disease research: from study participants to scientific partners

16. Integrated Sessions – 4
11c. Other
Healthcare professionals (HCPs) are increasingly open to patients playing a more active role in their own treatments as healthcare moves towards a patient-centric model. However, this paradigm shift is not currently reflected in the roles patients play in infectious disease research; HCPs and their patients have the potential to become partners who generate science together. In this Integrated Symposium we will explore how and why HCPs can partner with their patients in infectious disease research; we will examine what has worked well for other therapy areas, where we are in infectious disease and what our opportunities are, as well as our next steps as a research community. We look forward to seeing you there.
