4. Diagnostic bacteriology & general microbiology, 1,5-hour Educational Workshop
4f. Whole genome sequencing (diagnostic, typing) 2213 3:30 PM > 5:00 PM Practical aspects of genomic-based surveillance 4. Diagnostics 4f. Whole genome sequencing (diagnostic, typing)

Genomics have become the new gold standard for surveillance of infectious diseases. This is especially notable in areas of public health importance such as foodborne pathogens. While whole genome sequencing of pathogens (WGS) is now commonly if not routinely performed in many settings, the advent of shotgun metagenomics as a culture-independent technique introduces new excitement and challenges to surveillance systems. This Educational workshop will focus on surveillance of infectious diseases from several angles bringing together experts and experience from around the world.
