The stewardship of new antibiotics cannot be limited to national and international recommendations. In many countries, physicians receive information on new antibiotics directly from pharma companies with a huge impact on their prescribing decisions. This symposium aims to stimulate discussion on how pharma companies can become more involved in stewardship as soon as drugs are introduced in the market. Speakers will present examples of joint initiatives between pharma companies and research organisations to fund antibiotic stewardship intervention, and examples of how pharma companies can influence inappropriately stewardship recommendations for a new antibiotic.
